The taxpayer number is unique to a company, and necessary to buy services, goods, or property, to do contracts, to issue a bank account, to go to school, to the doctor’s office, etc. All people in Portugal, citizens or non-citizens, residents or non-residents, will need a tax number if they want to settle roots, or just invest in the country.
